As a mechanic, Johnathan is constantly exposed to debris, grease, and rust, which made him more prone to eye infections with his contact lenses. Prior to undergoing PRK surgery with Wavefront technology, he had an eye infection every month. Months after his PRK procedure, he is impressed with the results and now qualifies for the police academy thanks to his better-than-perfect vision.
Interviewer: So, Johnathan, how are you doing, buddy?
Johnathan: Pretty great.
Interviewer: So we did PRK on you a little while ago, right?
Johnathan: Yeah, about early July.
Interviewer: And it was a Wavefront procedure, and how's it doing after all these months?
Johnathan: It's awesome, really. I'm impressed.
Interviewer: How has it changed your life?
Johnathan: It's changed a lot. I mean, I don't have as many eye infections. I used to have really bad eye infections, and I haven't had one since.
Interviewer: You had that with contact lenses, you said, right?
Johnathan: Yeah, I had, in the past six months before the PRK, I had about four to five of them.
Interviewer: That's amazing. That's a lot.
Johnathan: Almost once a month.
Interviewer: And people think they're at risk for eye infection more than contact lenses after LASIK, but it's actually the other way around. You more likely to get infections from contacts from the actual procedure, so you don't have to worry about that in the future.
Interviewer: So you had a dirty work environment being a mechanic, too?
Johnathan: Yeah. Yeah, the mechanic world is . . . and I work on larger trucks, so they're definitely a lot dirtier than just the normal, average car.
Interviewer: Do you have contact lens hassles with the dirt?
Johnathan: Yes. Yeah, I would get dirt and grease and sometimes rust and stuff in them, so . . .
Interviewer: So you have to worry about that now?
Johnathan: No. No, I mean, I've gotten dirt in them, and just basically washed my eyes out and . . . I haven't had an infection since, so . . .
Interviewer: So what's your future career?
Johnathan: I'm actually applying for the state police. I just had my polygraph test, so . . .
Interviewer: And we needed to do this to qualify, right?
Johnathan: Yes. Yeah, I had to do it six months out, so I wanted to get it taken care of before I started the academy, because you have to have it. Within a month of starting at the academy, it has to be six months prior to that, so . . .
Interviewer: Right. So we do a lot of police officers. They have to qualify to get this done to pursue their careers. So hope it works out the best for you, and have a joyous career, and good luck to you in passing the academy. I'm sure you'll do a good job.
Johnathan: Thank you. I appreciate it.
Interviewer: And glad I could change your life. So just enjoy your new vision. You're better than perfect today. Wavefront PRK, sometimes get the best visions. It's 20/20 within 2 to 4 months. But I tell them down the road, the best is yet to come, and that's what you got, so just enjoy it.
Johnathan: It's awesome. Thank you.
Interviewer: Okay. Well, we'll see you soon, the next visit.
Johnathan: All right. Thank you.
Interviewer: Okay. You're welcome. My pleasure.
