We want you to be informed about this exciting procedure before you decide to go through with it. Benefits of Traditional LASIK Eye Surgery

Laser vision treatments involve the use of a laser to permanently change the shape of the cornea, the crystal-clear covering of the front of the eye. By adjusting the curvature of the cornea, our doctors can improve the eye's ability to focus, allowing many patients to see clearly without glasses or contact lenses. The majority of our LASIK eye surgery patients, many of whom come from areas such as Philadelphia, Harrisburg, and Lancaster, notice a dramatic improvement in their vision immediately after the procedure. Most are even able to return to full activity, including driving, the day after surgery.

The Traditional LASIK Eye Surgery Procedure

LASIK eye surgery is the most frequently performed laser vision correction procedure. Numbing drops are administered prior to the procedure to ensure that patients do not experience any discomfort. The LASIK procedure takes about five minutes per eye to perform. Dr. Columbus or one of our experienced LASIK surgeons begins by using the latest computer technology to precisely map the interior of your eye.

After determining the adjustments necessary to optimize our patients' vision, our doctors use a microkeratome machine to create a flap. The corneal flap is then folded back to expose the corneal curvature. Our doctors then use an excimer laser to quickly and safely alter the shape of the cornea. When the procedure is completed, the flap is replaced in its normal position over the new corneal curvature and allowed to heal on its own.

Because the procedure is so minimally invasive, patients are usually able to function normally and perform everyday tasks with no hindrance the following day.
