LASIK Monovision

If you are over the age of 40 years & wearing bifocals for reading then Monovion LASIK laser vision correction may be for you. Our doctors at our offices will show you how “monovision looks” with a pair of glasses simulating the results…Monovision works by putting one eye, usually the dominant eye, for distance. The other eye, non-dominant eye, is mainly made for near vision. There may be an “imbalance” in the distance vision; less so for younger patients & more so for older patients. Despite the imbalance, some patients can acclimate to the imbalance over just a week or two. If the patients cannot tolerate the “monovion imbalance” for distance or near, then an enhancement or second LASIk treatment can be applied to the non-dominant near eye and convert to it to see better for distance. Afterwards these patients would need reading glasses as both eyes are now corrected to improve the distance vision without imbalance issues.

Epi-LASIK

Epi-LASIK is a modified PRK procedure where a corneal scratch is not made unlike PRK…this procedure saves the skin layer of the eye called the “EPI”thelium to potentially promote a faster healing rate with the skin surface preserved. After PRK laser vision correction with Doctor William Columbus, a bandage contact lens is kept in the eye for one week protection and to facilitate healing with eyedrops. Vision usually occurs to its fullest within just several days afterwards. Like PRK, this procedure is safest for THIN CORNEAS. BOTH procedures PRK & EPI-LASEK avoid typical LASIK flap complications as these procedures are “FLAPLESS” procedures best suited for thin corneal patients.

PRK to remove corneal scar & haze

PRK can be used in a way called “PTK” to remove scar tissue or haze to improve patients vision without any expenses…Most insurance companies will cover this procedure in full as this may make their vision potentially better to see more clearly with glasses or eliminate eyewear for distance. If you had a prior eye injury, infection, or medical problem such as keloid or diabetes forming a corneal scar or haze, then PTK may be an option for you to potentially improve your vision. You can visit our LASIK laser vision correction doctor to see if PTK eye surgery is best for you.

LASEK vision correction

LASEK laser vision correction is a procedure more recently developed than LASIK with an “I”. LASEK with an “E” is also referred as E-LASEK. This procedure is best suited for patients having THIN CORNEAS. Thin cornea patients are most of the times best for LASIK vision correction.
